"Join us for an enriching day focused on how best to grow your own seasonal organic vegetables at home from one of Irelands leading figures in organic vegetable growing, Klaus Laitenberger. Klaus Laitenberger is the author of three vegetable gardening books. He was the Head Gardener at the Organic Centre in Co. Leitrim and restored the gardens of Lissadell House in Co. Sligo. He is a regular contributor to the Irish Garden magazine.

Perfect for both beginners and seasoned gardeners, our workshop blends hands-on experience in our restored Walled  Garden with  thoughtful discussions and plenty of advice that will be helpful to all in getting started and having more success. Expect a day filled with inspiration, skill-building, confidence to start your own food garden including  a delicious homemade lunch !"

 

 

What to expect....

 

10:30 AM - Welcome Tea & Coffee and Introductions

Begin the day with a warm welcome! Participants can enjoy homemade scones, coffee, and tea by the log fire in the charming setting of the renovated stables.

 

11:00 AM - Garden Insights- Learning the essentials with Klaus

This session will include Crop Planning,Crops Rotation,Crop selection and what crops suit small gardens , Tips on how to best avoid pests and diseases.Seasonal garden planning and preparation and Sustainable practices to protect soil and promote biodiversity

 

1:00 PM - Lunch Break

Indulge in a delicious, home-cooked lunch served in the dining room of Coolamber House. This beautifully restored period room, with its long table and elegant details, offers the perfect setting for a leisurely meal and good conversation. Enjoy home cooked  dishes made with fresh, local ingredients, and raise a glass of cava to celebrate the day.

 

2:00 PM - Practical Workshop in the Garden

Put the morning’s lessons into practice in our Walled garden which is sub divided into a Kitchen garden, Orchard, berry and currant garden. Participants will engage activities such as how to prepare the soil, raised beds, managing weeds organically, tips for growing fruit bushes and herbs.

3.00 PM - Vegetable Seed Sowing

Practical work and tips for sowing a mixture of vegetable seeds into modular trays. Everyone will go home with vegetable seeds to start your own garden at home

 

 Gift & Farm Shop

Participants will have the opportunity to browse our gift and farm shop, which offers a variety of hand-selected locally produced products perfect for gardening enthusiasts. Discover tools, organic seeds, garden décor, seasonal produce, and unique gifts to take a piece of the workshop home with you.

 

All Refreshments throughout the day, home-cooked lunch, dessert and glass of cava are all included. Apart from becoming more knowledgeable and confident,  every one will also take home their own tray of  vegetable seeds to get you started. Presentation notes for further reference. All you need is yourself dressed warmly.
