This workshop is for everyone who would like to start their own food garden or who would like to become your knowledgeable. You will have the opportunity to learn from one of Irelands leading figures in organic vegetable growing, Klaus Laitenberger.
Klaus Laitenberger is the author of three vegetable gardening books. He was the Head Gardener at the Organic Centre in Co. Leitrim and restored the gardens of Lissadell House in Co. Sligo. He is a regular contributor to the Irish Garden magazine.
The workshop will be packed with practical demonstrations on
-how to prepare the soil
-making raised beds
-compost making session
-tips for growing fruit bushes and herbs
The practical element of the workshop will take place in the adjoining 1 acre walled garden of Coolamber House. The restoration of the walled garden at Coolamber House started last year in 2019 which included layout of paths and various sections within, this development work will be ongoing throughout 2021. A walk and talk tour of the of the walled garden will also be included.
The Classroom sessions will include
-Crop Planning
-Crops Rotation
-Crop selection and what crops suit small gardens
-Tips on how to best avoid pests and diseases
-Questions and Answers Session
These sessions will be held in our newly renovated authentic stables with a warm log burning fire. This space full of character will provide the perfect atmosphere to meet other people with a shared interest and swap many tips and nuggets of advice that will be helpful to all in getting started and having more success
Tea/ Coffee with scones will be served on arrival, there will be a short 10 minute break for elevenses. A two-course tasty home cooked light lunch will be provided in the dining room of Coolamber House. So all you need is yourself, dressed warmly in all your outdoor gardening gear!
