Welcome to a relaxing and inspiring day painting en plein air designed especially for beginners!

Experience the joy of en plein air painting with acrylics in the beautifully restored walled gardens of Coolamber House. This workshop is perfect for those new to painting or acrylics, offering a supportive and encouraging environment to explore your creativity. Under the guidance of  talented instructor, Nina Patterson who has over 20 years of teaching experience and a passion for introducing others to art, you'll be set up for a delightful day filled with learning, nature, and connection.

10 AM – Arrival, Welcome and Introductions

Start the day with a warm welcome in the historic, authentically restored stable building at Coolamber House. Enjoy tea, coffee, and freshly baked homemade scones while meeting your fellow artists and getting ready for a day of creative exploration.

 Morning Painting Session -

Head into the beautiful walled gardens for your first en plein air painting session. Participants are invited to stroll through the grounds finding their bearings and relaxing into their environs using viewfinders to seek out subjects that attract their eye. Direction is given on outdoor painting, choosing a scene to paint, practicing looking and seeing, thinking about focal points and compositions.

 Nina will begin with a short demonstration sketch, sharing essential techniques.  She’ll offer guidance on working with acrylics  and encourage you to experiment freely. Particiapants will then choose their own spot to get set up.

Participants will have time to create their piece, with Nina offering individual guidance and encouragement. If the weather turns, a covered area within the gardens provides a cozy, sheltered space to continue.

1.00PM -  Lunch in the Dining Room of Coolamber House

Take a break to enjoy a delicious, two-course lunch in the elegant dining room of Coolamber House. Savor the flavors of fresh, seasonal ingredients and indulge in a glass of Cava (or a non-alcoholic option). Lunch is a perfect time to chat, exchange ideas, and connect

 

Afternoon Painting Session

Return to the gardens for the afternoon session, now focusing on adding details and refining techniques. Nina will be available for further demonstrations and one-on-one assistance. This session allows for more experimentation and time to  continue refining your morning creation.

Leave with your completed painting, newfound skills, and memories of a day well spent. Every detail has been taken care of for you, from art supplies to refreshments, so you can carry this experience home feeling inspired and accomplished.
