DRIED FLOWER AND SEED SAVING WORKSHOP

​(including Seasonal Cut Flower Arrangement)

There are three elements to this workshop brought to you by Maria Ryan, Bellmeadowireland.com, flower farmer and organic horticulturist from Co. Carlow.

​

  • Seed Saving  You will learn the basics of how to save your own seed.

​

The benefits of seed saving are many such as preserving heirloom varieties, protecting biodiversity, building resilient seed varieties, saving your own personal favourites and also saving you money.

Everyone will have the opportunity do practical seed saving on the day.

​

You will leave with the confidence to practice seed saving on your own a wonderful traditional skill that every gardener should know.

  • Drying Cut Flowers   Dried flowers are making a massive comeback mainly due to the innovative ways in which they are now used in flower arrangements and wreaths etc.

​

During the busy summer months when you have an abundance of  flowers it makes total seems to cut some stems to use during leaner winter months. You will learn how to dry flowers and what type of flowers  and grasses are good for drying how best to utilise them throughout the year



  • Seasonal Irish Cut flower Arrangement The day will end with a demonstration on creating a simple and beautiful vase arrangement using all Irish grown cut flowers and foliage. You will also have the opportunity to create your own arrangement to take home.




This workshop will be held in our renovated stables with a warm log burning fire. This space full of character will provide the perfect atmosphere to meet other people with a shared interest and swap many tips and nuggets of advice that will be helpful to all in getting started and having more success.


A guided walk in our 1 acre walled garden will also be included. This garden is a restoration project . You can see what work is already complete, current projects and future plans.



Tea/ Coffee with scones will be served on arrival.


A light two-course lunch will be provided in the dining room of Coolamber House.



Every Participant will  be going home with the:

​

- confidence to start saving their own seed.

​

- typed notes to take home for reference

- a selection of seeds to get you started including Bellmeadow's signature Bee and Butterfly Mix of seeds

​

-the tips to successfully dry flowers that you have in abundance in the summer months to use throughout winter in your arrangements and in addition as a relaxing end to the day

​

- you will create  your own seasonal arrangement from Irish grown cut flowers and foliage to take home and enjoy.

NOTE: Booking online is essential to secure your place. Spaces are strictly limited.Twelve is the max number participants. Anyone with vouchers who would like to attend this workshop please do contact me to let me know as soon as possible. Sanitisation will be provided and temperature checks on arrival. We ask you not to attend if you are feeling unwell. The workshop is well aerated. However lunch will be provided indoors in our dining room, if anyone is uncomfortable with this let me know and we will do our best to accommodate.
