PLANT PROPAGATION WITH COLM O'DRISCOLL

We are delighted to welcome Colm O'Driscoll Head Gardener at Lismore Castle Co
Waterford to Coolamber House & Gardens.Colm is a graduate of the National Botanic
Gardens of Ireland, Colm has enjoyed a diverse career, gaining experience in many sectors
of the horticultural industry. He previously managed the gardens in Airfield estate Dublin and
is regular contributor to The Irish Garden Magazine

This comprehensive workshop will equip participants with the knowledge and techniques of
plant propagation, and in turn give the participants the confidence to successfully grow their
own plants from seeds, divisions and cuttings. Drawing on his own experience of
propagating plants for public gardens for over a decade Colm will share the tips and tricks
he has gleaned over the years.
The workshop will be divided into two parts. The first part of the day will focus on seed
sowing, detailing all aspects from seed sourcing through to seed saving and sowing.
The second part of the workshop will focus on propagation through cuttings and division
where participant will gain hands on experience of dividing herbaceous plants as well as
taking cuttings of perennials and shrubs. Propagation is truly one of the most rewarding
aspects of gardening and once you have mastered the art you are guaranteed free plants for
life.
Included will be a tasty two course home cooked lunch with sparkling Cava in the dining
room of Coolamber House. There will also be a tour walk and talk of the Two Walled
Gardens, gardeners cottage, glass house, potting shed and other outbuildings.
